Letter from the president of FdI, urgent initiative is needed for the sector (ANSA)  The government should assume "responsibility for an urgent and immediate legislative initiative to secure the sector, accompanied by adequate and incisive action in the community".  The government should assume "responsibility for an urgent and immediate legislative initiative to secure the sector, accompanied by adequate and incisive action in the community".

This is the heart of a long letter sent by Giorgia Meloni, president of FdI, to Prime Minister Mario Draghi on the situation of bathing establishments (as well as tourist ports, hotels and other public establishments) after the sentences of the Council of State of 9 November, which impose the auctions for concessions from 1 January 2024 and which Meloni harshly criticizes in the method, recognizing an invasion of the field with respect to the legislative power, and in the merits.

"Once again, the reasons for such concessions that do not fall within the scope of the Bolkestein directive are not taken into consideration", writes the leader of FdI, as reported in a note, and goes on to recall the "much more striking cases such as those of Spain. and Portugal, whose legislators have regulated the sector by providing very long extensions without incurring any sanctions "by the EU Commission. Meloni defines Italian seaside tourism "unique in the European and world panorama" thanks "to the investments made over the years by companies" and warns Draghi about the risk of a "de facto expropriation of thousands of companies" that will not be able to meet the appetites of large foreign investors and the social impact that would ensue.A scenario defined as "catastrophic" by Meloni, who concludes the letter by making the proposals lodged in recent years by the Brothers of Italy available to the Government and inviting the Prime Minister to convene the trade associations as soon as possible to discuss the issue. The initiative of the letter to Draghi was born from a meeting between the top management of FdI, led by Meloni herself, and the national representatives of the category, which will be followed in the next few days by the presentation by FdI in all the regional Councils of orders of the day of the same content. "I hope, Mr. President, - Meloni's conclusion - that you will not let this cry of alarm fall and that you will take the consequent initiatives to protect a fundamental piece of our tourism sector".
