Tsunami Adele hit the French coast and Orelsan's pen.
The British singer who reigns on the English, American and Australian charts of the best sales of discs with his album of Divorce
30
will have to be satisfied in France of the second place vis-a-vis the Norman rapper.
In just one week after its release, its
Civilization
disc
has sold 138,929 copies, according to the official list published yesterday by Snep.

His “girl”, society and the meaning of life… Orelsan is looking for himself in his album Civilization
As Le Parisien reminds us, the first figures for
Civilization were
already off to a flying start: 50,000 pre-orders, 94,306 copies sold after three days of sales and listening on streaming platforms.
From the start of the promotional campaign, the lights were green: 50,000 pre-orders recorded, a shocking documentary produced by Orelsan's brother and posted with a bang on Amazon Prime Video.
The explosive political single
The smell of gasoline
and its spectacular clip had finished arousing curiosity.
Sales made without the backing of vinyl
With 138,929 copies, Orelsan achieved the best launch of the year ahead of the Enfoirés and their 118,000 transactions. The rapper is driven by physical sales: 96,615 CDs. And yet Orelsan could not count on the craze on vinyls. His record does not yet exist on this medium because of shortages on raw materials and the rhythmic calendar of releases in anticipation of the holidays. The release of
Civilization
in this popular format is expected in December.
In the rap category, Orelsan dethrones the PNL duo which until now held the title of best album launch with 113,000 copies of Deux Frères in 2019. The record in the history of French rap still belongs to IAM, which had sold 100,000 copies of
L'École du micro d'argent
in the first 24 hours after it was put on the shelves in 1997, at a time when pirating and streaming had not yet seen the light of day.
