The alert runs for 24 hours, at least.

If this Saturday afternoon "it snows lightly from the Alps to the Pyrenees from 500 to 800 m altitude from north to south", "new snowfall is expected in the evening of Saturday and in the night of Saturday to Sunday on the all the massifs ”, forecasts Météo France.

Snowfall will intensify "first in the north of the Massif Central, from the Creuse to the Puy de Dôme, above 500 m, then in the Pyrenees, above 600 to 700 m and finally on the Alps and the Jura at the end of the night, from 300 to 400 m ”.

Up to 80 centimeters in the Pyrenees

Sunday morning, the snow will descend a little lower in the plain, "around 300 to 400 m in the Pyrenees, and to the bottom of the valleys in the Alps". "This precipitation will last until Monday morning, gradually losing its intensity," forecasts Météo France. It is expected in the Alps and the Jura 20 to 40 cm of snow above 800 m (and 5 to 10 cm in the bottoms of alpine valleys), in the Pyrenees: 40 to 60 cm (locally 70 to 80 cm on l west of the massif) above 800 m, and 10 to 20 cm above 500 m, in the Massif Central 10 to 30 cm above 500 m.

These departments in orange vigilance are not the only ones concerned by orange vigilance.

Proof of this is the few flakes that fell, this Saturday, in the Grand-Est region and in Île-de-France and in a large northern part of the country.

In addition to these 11 departments with orange vigilance, 41 are affected by yellow vigilance, most of them located in the east of the country.
