In the small town of Brooklyn Park, a group of children in a house were shooting a video to post on social media, when a shot was accidentally left.
It is unclear whether the gun was left unattended in the house or if the 13-year-old who fired it had it with him.
The first responders tried in vain to resuscitate the affected child, who died on the spot.
The thirteen-year-old has meanwhile been arrested and taken to a juvenile prison.
