LVMH Corporation, Louis Vuitton and the Off White brand house announced tonight (Sunday) the death of Virgil Abelou, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton and founder of the successful Street Style brand Off White after a war on cancer that has been kept secret for the past two years, at just 41 years old.

The post posted on the rising designer's official Instagram page came as bitter news in complete surprise to the fashion and music industry that mourned his unfortunate death, leaving behind a wife and two children.

The post details a long-running battle with a type of cardiac, violent and rare cancer and explains the desire to preserve Abel's privacy: "Fashion, art and culture. Throughout the period, he maintained professional ethics, curiosity and optimism."
