The Pierre-Daix Prize was created by François Pinault in 2015, in homage to the memory of his friend, writer and prolific French art historian, survivor of Mauthausen, long companion of communism, who died in 2014 at the age of 92.

Each year since then, this prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, distinguishes a work devoted to the history of modern and contemporary art.
