In the United Kingdom it was decided to offer all adults the third dose of the anti-Covid vaccine, therefore including the age group ranging from 18 to 39 years, to counter the spread of the new Omicron variant.
This was announced by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI).
The third injection can be done only three months after the second.
People aged 40 and over can already benefit from a booster dose in the UK. As an additional indication, young people between the ages of 12 and 15 should be offered a second dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, no earlier than 12 weeks after the first administration. While for severely immunosuppressed subjects a booster dose is indicated no earlier than three months after completing their primary course of three doses. Professor Wei Shen Lim, head of the JCVI, said of the dangers and fears of the new variant: "Receiving a booster dose will help increase our level of protection against the Omicron variant." And he added: "This is an important way of reducing the impact of this variant on our life, especially in the coming months ".
