A message of peace for the Balkans comes from an Italian composer and conductor.
Giorgio Sini, after conducting the concert at the Kolaraz theater in Belgrade, hands over to the President of the Defense Ministry, Nikola Zivkovic "The Angel of Peace", a terracotta sculpture "to pay homage to the victims of the 1999 Balkan war. ".
Sini, who is also a pianist, conducted the "Stanislav Binicki" Symphony Orchestra, the "Belgrade Quartet" and cellist Dusan Stojanovic. Invited by the Italian Cultural Institute of Belgrade, he performed music by Luigi Boccherini, concert for cello and orchestra in Bb; Wolfgang Amedeus Mozart, symphony n 40 K 505; Edward Elgar Concerto for Quartet ofstrings and orchestra op. 47.
The concert was a great success, but what sparked the enthusiasm was also the delivery of the 'Angel of stone' to the representative of the Ministry of Defense: a sculpture specially created for the occasion by the artist Betty Gobbo representing a soldier angel with a dove in his hands "in the act of flying away as a sign of peace", explains the master.
The gift was accompanied by a letter, for the Belgrade authorities, from the Mayor of Treviso, Mario Conte, "with the hope that music is still the means to unite communities".
Also in Belgrade, Giorgio Sini presented his piece "Angels on my piano".
"I returned to Belgrade after 20 years, always thanks to music - explains Sini who had directed the Philharmonic of the city during the bombings - and I wanted to materialize my memories in this sculpture, strongly desired to exorcise the evil of war that unfortunately I saw with my eyes ".
