Omicron: Gisaid, identified in 10 countries on 5 continents

The Omicron variant has so far been identified in ten countries on five continents: this is indicated by the international genetic data bank Gisaid, in which countries from all over the world deposit the sequences of the SarsCoV2 virus. (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 29 - The Omicron variant has so far been identified in ten countries on five continents: this is indicated by the international database of genetic data Gisaid, in which countries from all over the world deposit the sequences of the SARSCOV2 virus.

At the moment the new Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) is present in Africa, Oceania, Europe, North America and Asia.

Gisaid's data also indicate that most of the sequences (129) come from Africa, with 110 deposited from South Africa and 19 from Botswana (19.2%).

The other countries follow with a great deal of distance: Australia, with 5 sequences, United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Canada (2);

there is currently 1 sequence deposited by Italy, as well as by Belgium, Israel and Austria.
