Thus, the Scottish government announced on Monday the discovery of six cases of this new coronavirus.

More worryingly, some are unrelated to overseas travel, local authorities said before new restrictions came into force in the UK.

The Scottish executive also said in a statement that the health authorities would trace the contacts of each of these six positive cases "in order to establish the origin of the virus".

Four cases were detected in the area of ​​Lanarkshire and two others in that of Greater Glasgow.

Faced with the questions raised by this variant deemed "worrying" by the WHO, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Saturday the implementation of new restrictions in one of the countries hardest hit by Covid-19, with nearly 145,000 dead.

"We can't stop it and we're trying to give ourselves time to understand how (this variant) works and how it interacts with the vaccine," Health Secretary Edward Argar said on Sky News. .
