In southern Germany, snow, ice and storms have led to hundreds of accidents.
In the south and east of Bavaria, the police, fire brigade and rescue services were called to over 500 missions on Tuesday and Wednesday night.
According to the police, there were more than 430 missions in Lower and Upper Bavaria alone, and well over a hundred accidents were reported in Swabia.
There was a fatal accident in Ingolstadt: two vehicles collided head-on, one man died.
In the neighboring district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, an 80-year-old had an accident and crashed into a tree.
The man later succumbed to his injuries.
The German Weather Service warns of extreme weather in other parts of Germany: Hurricane gusts are expected on the Brocken, the Fichtelberg and on the North Sea coast, and snowfall in the Bavarian Forest.
