Ethiopia: forces loyal to the government recapture Shewa Robit

(ANSA-AFP) - ADDIS ABABA, 01 DEC - Ethiopia today declared that the forces of the federal government have recaptured ShewaRobit, a town 220 kilometers from Addis Ababa, after the Tigray rebels had declared that they had taken control of it last week in their advance towards the capital.

    Government spokesman Legesse Tulu said ShewaRobit is among the small towns taken over by forces loyal to the Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, who announced last week that she would go to the front to lead frontline soldiers into the war pitting the two sides. for over a year.

    Legesse told state media that the towns and their surroundings "were freed by the terrorists of the TPLF", referring to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Tigray group.

   The government "in a short time" will also retake the cities of Desie and Lalibela, he added.

    The United States has openly criticized Abiy's management of the war, Nobel Peace Prize 2019 for the historic move of ending hostility with Eritrea and considering its rise as a reformer and key ally.

   China and Russia, on the other hand, have been more cautious.

    The Ethiopian Foreign Ministry today published on Twitter images of a press conference by Chinese state councilor and foreign minister, Wang Yi, who, during his visit to the country of the Horn of Africa, said that "China is opposed to any interference in the internal affairs of Ethiopia ".
