A violent storm destroyed houses in Istanbul, uprooted trees, tore down roofs and brought down a clock tower.
The storm has raged in the 15 million metropolis since Monday morning.
At least four people died and another 38 were injured.
This was announced by the authority for disaster and emergency management.
Emergency services are currently trying to help people in need, according to the Istanbul governor's office.
Also on Tuesday, people in the region around Istanbul were confronted with squalls.
These were so strong that a washing machine even started moving here in Düzce.
According to the state weather service, wind speeds of up to 129 kilometers per hour were measured.
In the middle of the storm, the authorities took precautions for Istanbul and the surrounding area.
The Bosporus between the Marmara and the Black Sea was closed to shipping on Monday.
Six Turkish Airlines flights were diverted and landed outside Istanbul.
The governorate said schools will remain closed on Wednesday due to the ongoing effects of the storm.
