Since Monday, a video of a pack of wolves crossing a residential area of Modane (Savoie) has been creating a buzz on the Web. Posted on Fac

The appearances of wolves have increased in recent months. After being photographed in the Yvelines, in Blaru on November 11, the wolf was still talked about in Savoy in the village of Modane. Filmed by young people last Saturday, they were this time six canines, in a pack, to cross the city at night with a quiet step. For the inhabitants of this town located in the heart of the Maurienne valley, these night visits are not uncommon. "Once, a neighbor told me that he had seen one near my gate", testifies a Modanese, reached by telephone. “It's common to see a couple of them in the area at this time of year. But there they were a pack of six. That's a lot, ”rebounds another inhabitant. The video also challenged the mayor of the town, Jean-Claude Raffin.“We have not yet entered into a psychosis. The inhabitants are confident. On the other hand, seeing six specimens strolling in the middle of the street, at a not so late hour - it was around 8:30 pm - it makes us ask questions, ”explains the city councilor to the Parisian.

In addition to the complications associated with breeding, the presence of wolves, increasingly close to homes, could become a serious problem as the population continues to grow.

“Wolves, as we can see, are less afraid of man.

We see them coming closer and closer.

As an elected official, I just don't know what to do.

Even if the specialists tell us that they are not attacking us, could they attack the little ones?

Should I ask parents to forbid their children to go out at night?

“, Asks Jean-Claude Raffin.

A protected species in Europe, the gray wolf has been on the increase for several years.

The French Biodiversity Office, in charge of the official assessment, estimates 624 specimens in our territory.
