Luna Rossa has registered for the 37th edition of the America's Cup of sailing.
This was revealed by skipper Max Sirena during the presentation of the book 'Luna Rossa-The unforgettable challenge', in Milan.
"We have sent the 'notice of challenge', which includes the dossier with the documentation necessary to formalize registration for the event - said the sailor -. Now Team New Zealand and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron will verify the validity of the documents: if everything is in order, the challenge will be accepted ".
The challenge between the Italian team and the 'kiwi' team, the 'defender' of the trophy victoriously preserved for 7-3 in March in the final held against Luna Rossa in Auckland, is therefore renewed. This is the seventh America's Cup challenge in the history of Luna Rossa, which holds the Prada Cup, or the trophy up for grabs among the challengers, but in the past it has also won the Louis Vuitton Cup (previous name of the same trophy reserved for challengers). Once again the guidon of Luna Rossa will be that of the Circolo della Vela Sicilia in Palermo, with which the relationship is now consolidated. Luna Rossa actually signed up yesterday, that is on the first day to present applications. Just like the Swiss of Alinghi, chaired by Ernesto Bertarelli, who have won the trophy twice: in 2003,also in Auckland, and in 2007 in Valencia, seeing it blown by the Americans of Oracle in 2010, in Valencia.
At the moment, therefore, there are four unions registered for the next edition of the America's Cup, scheduled for 2024 in a location yet to be established: in addition to Team New Zealand, in liza Ineos Britannia (official challenger), Alinghi and Luna Rossa.
