The designated Federal Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP) presented her Parliamentary State Secretaries for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) on Thursday.

The posts should go to Thomas Sattelberger and Jens Brandenburg.

Sattelberger has been a member of the Bundestag for the FDP since 2017.

Before that, he had had a successful management career: he was Chief Human Resources Officer at Continental and Deutsche Telekom, where he put diversity management on the agenda and, among other things, was able to establish a quota for women on the board.

Thomas Sattelberger also worked for Lufthansa and Daimler-Benz Aerospace in personnel development and, among other things, launched the Lufthansa Business School as one of the first corporate universities in Germany.

Since he switched to politics, the FDP man has been particularly committed to digitization and to strengthening STEM education.

Jens Brandenburg was also a member of the Bundestag in the last legislative period.

He acted as spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group for studies, vocational training and lifelong learning and for the rights of queer people.

He was chairman of the study commission “Vocational training in the digital world of work”.

Andreas Keller, university expert from the Education and Science Union (GEW), responded positively to the two new state secretaries on Thursday.

The GEW has a good relationship with both of them, said the unionist on Twitter.

The major educational policy projects of the new Ampelkoalition include a Digital Pact II for schools, a separate digital pact for universities and improved working conditions for young academics.
