Google dedicates today's doodle to Georges Seurat, puncture painter, on the anniversary of his birth
Seurat is the key artist of post-impressionism: in his brief existence (Paris, 2 December 1859 - Gravelines, 29 March 1891) he had managed to create a very refined style, based on a complex and rigorous scientific theory of the relationships between light and color.
This is how Pointillisme was born, witnessed by works such as the memorable 'Sunday in Port-en-Bessin' of 1888 or by 'The Dining Room' by Paul Signac, who used the new technique to give life to the landscapes of the Côte d'Azur, lit by bright and sunny tones.
And while Symbolism too, through masters such as Denis, looked at the divided composition of color, it was Van Gogh's human and artistic adventure that laid the real foundations for the pictorial revolution.
