Precisely 9:01, French time, this Friday morning, the hour is serious. Netflix has just put online the last five episodes of "Casa de Papel", the most watched non-English series in the history of the platform. Despite the disappointing first part of this final season 5 (released two months ago), we launched an assault, like a last-ditch, of this epilogue of the adventures of the band of Spanish robbers in red overalls and Salvador Dali masks. A compulsive viewing challenge overcome in pain. Because as much as we loved the first seasons, the conclusion is clear: this season 5 is proving to be the one too many.
Despite the best will in the world, it's impossible not to be bored (and sometimes to fight against sleep).
Already, the sluggish first part of the 5th part was struggling to renew itself, aligning the endless scenes of shootings while getting confused in an increasingly improbable scenario.
Not to mention the incessant flashbacks that left speechless and complicated the narration.
Lost by the scenario
Unfortunately, the epilogue of "la Casa" does not manage to go up the slope.
Since the death of one of its heroines, Tokyo (played by Ursula Corbero), the most emblematic female character of the program, it is extremely difficult to become attached to the characters.
The scenario does not cease to lose us, served by a thunderous music much too easy.
Fortunately some more moving scenes look better, carried by the magnetic presence of the Professor (always the impeccable actor Alvaro Morte). In particular a left and drôlissime choreography on James Brown during a famous "night of the grouper" which will remain cult among the (last) fans. "You think the game is over when it has only just begun", loose the voice-over of Tokyo (who is dead, but we are no longer close to an implausibility) at the beginning of the final episode.
And there, difficult not to ask the fateful question: to what extent Alex Pina, the Spanish creator, will he eliminate (or massacre) the concept?
Certainly, the latest reflections shed light on the social and revolutionary side of history, in a sympathetic alter-globalization reflection.
But that is not enough to save it all.
Just like a last episode more interesting than the others.
The end clap is a huge relief.
Finally finished!
