(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 03 - There will be 10 million and 118 thousand Italians (including adults and minors) traveling to the long weekend of 8 December. 92.3% will remain in Italy, while 7.7% will go abroad, according to Federalberghi forecasts. It will be a bridge of proximity: more than half of those who remain in Italy (50.8%) will remain in their own region and 30.6% will go to a region close to the one in which they reside.
On average, each traveler will spend about 3.4 nights away from home and the average per capita expenditure, including transport, accommodation, food and entertainment, will be around 416 euros, with a turnover of 3.2 billion euros.
Among those who have given up on vacation, 40.3% say they had to do it due to lack of money, 23.0% for family reasons, 18.8% for fear of contagion from Covid-19. Furthermore, it should be emphasized that 12.9% will not take a vacation during this period due to the state of uncertainty that still hovers over the measures to contain the pandemic. Among those who will remain in Italy, 35.2% will prefer art places, 25.2% the mountains, 12.6% will go to the sea, 5.4% will prefer spas, 3.8% i lakes. 74.3% of the few who will go abroad will choose the great European capitals. Most of the interviewees (57.9%) chose to go on holiday for the long weekend of December 8 to relax, 28.9% to have fun and 18.9% to join their family.The home of relatives / friends will be the structure chosen by 36.0% of travelers, followed by 26.5% who will choose the hotel, and by 11.8% the bed and breakfast. Accommodation costs account for 18.7% of the budget; travel expenses for 22.3%, and those relating to meals for 28.3%. The largest chapter of expenditure (30.7%) concerns the other items (shopping, entertainment, etc.).
According to the federation of hoteliers, 40.5% of the interviewees state that they contact the accommodation directly to book their stay via the website, telephone or e-mail.
