The authorities in Panama have, according to their own statements, confiscated what is "undoubtedly the largest" amount of drug money in the country's history.
During a police operation, more than ten million dollars (around 8.9 million euros) in cash were found, the prosecutor said on Thursday (local time).
The scabbard was discovered in three hiding places in a villa in the province of Colón in the north of the country.
It took more than twelve hours to count all the money, said prosecutor Javier Caraballo.
Several cash counters failed because of the overload.
“The money machines barely managed to count.
Some of them broke in the process, they had to be replaced. «The money apparently came from drug smuggling deals from Colombia to the United States.
