After the firearms attack that left four dead at a school in the small town of Oxford, north of Detroit, on Tuesday, the parents of the 15-year-old attacker were arrested.
Police found James and Jennifer Crumbley in an industrial building in Detroit, Michigan, a police spokesman told CNN on Saturday.
The public prosecutor's office accuses the parents of negligent homicide in four cases.
The father and his son bought the weapon four days before the attack.
The Crumbleys apparently fled after the incident.
According to CNN, they withdrew $ 4,000 from an ATM on Friday and switched off their cell phones.
They stayed gone all day.
The police offered a $ 10,000 reward for clues about the whereabouts of the crumbles.
Her lawyers said the parents had left the city "for their own safety" and wanted to face the authorities.
Shortly before the arrest, the parents' vehicle was found in Detroit, the police spokesman said.
This brought the authorities on the trail of the two.
"Christmas present" for the son
The accusation of negligent homicide against the parents is an unusual move by law enforcement agencies.
The mother is said to have called the semi-automatic pistol on online platforms as a "Christmas present" for her son, as the Oakland County attorney said.
On the day of the crime, the parents were also summoned for an interview by the school administration because the drawings with the violent fantasies had been discovered on the son's desk.
“The thoughts don't stop.
Help me, ”is said to have read next to a picture of a pistol.
In addition, the 15-year-old had apparently drawn a cartridge and a corpse, along with the message: "My life is useless".
The parents allegedly refused to bring their son home and did not check whether the teenager had the gun with them.
The 15-year-old returned to class.
He later took out the pistol he had hidden in his backpack in the school toilet and opened fire.
Act announced in the video
He killed four classmates between the ages of 14 and 17 and injured seven other people.
After the fact, he was arrested without resistance and was subsequently charged, among other things, with quadruple murder and terrorism.
According to adult criminal law, the teenager should be tried.
He faces life imprisonment.
According to the police, the shooter had recorded a video on his cell phone the evening before the crime, in which he announced the attack for the next day.
According to the prosecutor, the allegation against parents James and Jennifer Crumbley was also intended to "bring accountability to those who contributed to this tragedy and to send a message to gun owners that they have a responsibility."
