There is a video on which you can immediately see what Mirco Nontschew's comedy was all about. And on which you can perhaps guess why it wasn't so successful for a while. In the mid-1990s, Nontschew is sitting with Harald Schmidt, and his incredibly striking facial features immediately catch the eye. Sharp cheekbones, a nose as if carved out of stone and eyebrows that seem to have a life of their own. With this face, Nontschew makes completely exaggerated grimaces, changes his mood from one second to the next, from relaxed to frightened to indignant. And then there is his real trademark, his voice: dialects, real or made up, and above all noises that he can imitate.

So he's sitting there on Harald Schmidt's armchair and shooting off his fireworks of facial expressions and sounds, for example imitating a submarine periscope, which just looks crazy.

You can literally notice how even Schmidt is overwhelmed by this anarchic performance.

That is the great thing about Nonchev.

On the other hand, the video also shows: Harald Schmidt, the nineties, that's all over, and somehow it doesn't surprise you that someone like Nontschew hasn't been one of the comedy greats in the last decade.

First precision mechanic, then comedian

The comedian and entertainer Mirco Nontschew was born in East Berlin in 1969.

The father was a musician from Bulgaria, the mother a journalist.

As a teenager, it says on his own homepage, he earned money with beatboxing.

At the end of the eighties he was also a break dancer.

Parents wanted him to learn something tangible after school, so he trained as a precision mechanic for medical equipment.

As such, he actually worked for a year.

At the same time he took drum and singing lessons.

He worked as a stage technician at the Komische Oper in Berlin and in 1990 applied to the University of the Arts in musicals and shows - but was rejected.

After all, it was Hugo Egon Balder who discovered him for television in 1992 and brought him to the show "RTL Saturday Night", with which Nontschew quickly became the well-known comedian of the 1990s. Later he also starred in films such as “7 dwarfs. Men alone in the forest ”or“ Otto's Eleven ”, both directed by Otto Waalkes. Nontschew was awarded the Bavarian TV Prize, the Bambi and the German Comedy Prize, among others.

After the rapid years of success, things had calmed down around Nontschew, you saw and heard him only rarely. Until then suddenly the show "LOL: Last One Laughing", in which he participated, became a surprise hit. The concept of the Amazon program: Under the observation of Michael "Bully" Herbig, high-ranking comedians - including Anke Engelke, Kurt Krömer or Nontschew - have to make each other laugh. However: if you laugh, you have lost. A concept that seemed made for the man with the ultra-fast facial muscles. Mainly because his talent wasn't the pose comedy, not the basic program, but the silly, but never insignificant, situational comedy.

Also in the third season, Nontschew was there again, it has already been shot and should be shown in spring 2022.

It is all the more tragic that now that a wider audience was again enthusiastic about his art, Nontschew died surprisingly at the age of only 52 years.

“We acknowledge the death of our friend and family member.

The family asks for consideration during these difficult times, «said his manager Bertram Riedel of the» Bild «newspaper.

The death of Nontschev was also confirmed to the German press agency.

The cause of death is still unclear.

Hugo Egon Balder, who once discovered Nontschew, wrote on Instagram: "I'm stunned, infinitely sad and now just mute".

Mirco Nontschew leaves two children behind.
