MILAN - Three 16th century paintings of the Nativity to be rediscovered.

For the third consecutive year, the exhibition 'Masterpiece for Lecco' promoted by the Pastoral Community and the Madonna del Rosario Cultural Association in collaboration with the Municipality returns to the Palazzo delle Paure in Lecco from 5 December until 5 March.

After the works by Tintoretto and Lotto on display in the past editions, the protagonists of this year's review, entitled 'Saved stories. Three sixteenth-century Nativities to be rediscovered ', are three paintings by as many artists from Lombardy and Veneto. These are the Nativity of Andrea Previtali, kept in the Sanctuary of Santa Maria Nascente in Arconate, the Adoration of the shepherds by a Venetian painter, almost certainly attributed to Jacopo Bassano and the Adoration of the shepherds by Giovanni Battista Moroni, both from private collections. .

"We feel obliged as Christians to leave the church and tell what Christmas is and nothing like art is the ideal instrument of this story - commented Monsignor Davide Milani, Provost of Lecco and promoter of theinitiative -.

We want to make people discover works that are little known and little seen by the public, and we give the opportunity to see them but always with mediation and within a context. These mediators are the high school children of Lecco and the province who have been trained to tell the works "." We have come from almost two years of pandemic, it is by leveraging the places of culture that it is possible to find the reasons for being together ", he commented the Councilor for Autonomy and Culture of the Lombardy Region, Stefano Bruno Galli, while for Stefano Bolognini, Regional Councilor for Metropolitan City Development, Youth and Communication this project is important because "there is the engagement of young people".

The exhibition, curated by Giovanni Valagussa and Antonio Mazzotta, will be an opportunity to learn about masterpieces that have never been exhibited, such as the Adoration of the Shepherds attributed to Jacopo Bassano who remained hidden for centuries in a privately owned oratory in the province of Verona, and until its restoration, which took place in 2014, was compromised by numerous repaintings.
