(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 05 - Comic book readers in Italy are almost 9 million (8, 7 to be precise), starting from the age of 14, that is 18% of the population and 35% of the total audience of readers. And they are more men than women. In general, comic book lovers read books of all kinds. The research data 'Who is the comic reader in Italy?' created by the Italian Publishers Association-Aie, in collaboration with Aldus Up and Eudicom, both financed by the European Commission through the EuropaCreativa program, and Lucca Comics & Games.
The survey was presented on the second day of the small and medium-sized publishing fair 'More books more free', scheduled to run until 8 December at the Nuvola dell'Eur in Rome.
Comparing these numbers with research carried out in the past, in 1996 by Istat on those over six years old and in 2019 by Ipsos over 15 years old, we see a remarkable growth: they were 3.96 million in 1996, 7.28 million in 2019. Again Ipsos, in 2021 it estimated 8.27 million readers, but aged 15 and over.
Comics are a genre more frequented by men (21%) than by women (14%) and more by young people than by the elderly, even if not predominantly.
Indeed, it can be said that the reading of comics is very present up to the under-55s.
