LUCCA - Vintage toys, old photos, playful objects, but also posters, catalogs and many other documents to remember the past.

The exhibition that kicks off tomorrow at Palazzo Ducale in Lucca until 9 January is called 'Giro giro tondo, play the world'.

The exhibition - promoted by the Province of Lucca and the Paolo Cresci Foundation for the history of Italian emigration - is curated by Pietro Luigi Biagioni with the scenic project signed by Alessandro Sesti. The time span of the collected material goes from the middle of the 19th century to the Second World War and corresponds to the Italian period of the great migratory flows. The staging also has a "soundtrack" by the Lucchese composer Gianmarco Caselli who specially composed "Ambarabà", a cheerful piece that is inspired by the atmosphere of local folk festivals. The exhibition is composed of a series of documents dedicated to children's play from the Cresci archive, with over 200 photos, vintage toys, letters, newspaper articles, posters and catalogs. "Children - explain the curators of the exhibition Biagioni and Sesti - become protagonists in communication through photographic images: there are portraits from birth following the itinerary that documents significant life events: birth, religious ceremonies, scholastic successes and obviously an important space is dedicated to games ".

"The exhibition of Palazzo Ducale forces us, at least to us adults, to reopen the drawers of memory and therefore to renew memories of moments and loved ones - declares Ave Marchi, president of the Cresci Foundation -. Get closer to vintage photographs of children playing with the toys of the past arouses a sense of nostalgia because it reminds us of childhood. But it also arouses regret because we know that these toys speak of a world that is light years away from the present one ".
