Colonel Edward Shames, the last surviving officer of the historic World War II Parachute Infantry Regiment of the US Army known as 'Easy Company' and known today throughout the world, died last Friday in Virginia at the age of 99. the world as 'Band of Brothers'. CNN reports it.
During World War II, Shames "was a member of the renowned 'Easy Company', 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, now known worldwide as the 'Band of Brothers'", reads the obituary published by the Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home & Crematory. The story of the 'Easy Company' was later immortalized in the HBO miniseries 'Band of Brothers', based on Stephen E. Ambrose's New York Times bestseller of the same name.
