(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 06 - In the last twelve months, one million Italian readers have purchased at least one book through the websites of publishing houses: a figure that has doubled compared to the data of May 2020 and quadrupled compared to March.

The data collected by Pepe Research and re-elaborated by the Studies Office of the Italian Publishers-Aie Association say so, referring to September 2021, presented on 6 December at the Small and Media Publishing Fair 'More books freer' at the Cloud of Eur in Rome.

The phenomenon is inscribed within the greater familiarity that Italians have acquired in the months of the pandemic with respect to e-commerce: 2.7 million people have started buying online and who previously did not, equal to 11% of readers.

Today 55% of readers are familiar with online purchases and have made at least one in the last twelve months.

Bookstores home deliveries, on the other hand, after reaching a peak of 10% in May 2020, in full lockdown, decreased to 3% in September 2021. (ANSA).
