In Eschweiler, eight children and young people allegedly broke into their school and caused damage of an estimated 150,000 euros.

The police announced in Aachen.

Teachers who happened to be in the parking lot of the secondary school on Sunday afternoon first discovered a glow in the school building, which is currently being renovated.

A short time later they caught three boys and five girls running out of the building.

Hand over children to their legal guardians

The teachers then found that the panes of two dozen newly installed windows and doors had been thrown willfully.

In addition, several fire extinguishers have been emptied.

According to a police report, a pile of rubbish was piled up and set on fire in front of a classroom.

However, the suspects between the ages of 10 and 14 quickly extinguished the fire themselves.

The children were given to their legal guardians.

The school management has been informed of the incident and will take further steps, it said.

The criminal police started the investigation.
