(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 06 - Amici di Maria De Filippi is not a plagiarism: it was established by the first civil section of the Court of Cassation (president Francesco Genovese) which - with an order communicated on December 5 - definitively acquitted the presenter of the accusation of having copied a previous TV format, concluding a process that lasted over thirteen years.
The Supreme Court accepted the defense argument of the lawyer Giorgio Assumma and confirmed the two previous rulings of the Rome court and the Court of Appeal. The story began in 2004, when the screenwriter Roberto Quagliano sued De Filippi, as author of the Amici program, accusing her of having plagiarized a previous television product, entitled 'School of entertainment'. Quagliano asked the court that both De Filippi and the production company of the program, Fascino PGT, were jointly and severally condemned to pay damages. Request rejected by the judges: between the two products, the court established, there was absolute gender diversity, being 'Show School' a reality show, Amici a talent show, nor was there any similarity in terms of content. The Court ofAppello, in 2016, confirmed this provision.
Now the Supreme Court has put an end to the affair, condemning Quagliano to reimburse the costs of the three levels of trial in favor of De Filippi.
