Champions: last call eighth, Barca risks

2021-12-06T20:10:42.745Z

11 clubs vying for 5 seats. Atalanta favorite, Milan in the balance. (HANDLE)

Eleven teams competing for the five places still available for qualifying for the round of 16 of the Champions League, including all four participants in the balanced group G. This is the background on the eve of the sixth and final day, which closes the 2021 event. Five teams are sure of the first place: Liverpool, Ajax, Bayern (with full points), Manchester City and United. Six other teams are certainly qualified: Chelsea, Juventus, Inter, Psg, Real Madrid and Sporting. On the other hand, 11 teams can still qualify and will compete for the remaining five places: Milan, Atalanta, Atletico, Barcelona, Benfica, Lille, Porto, Salzburg, Seville, Villarreal, Wolfsburg. From the point of view of performance by nations, as usual the Premier dominates with 4 qualified, ahead of Serie A with two while Liga and Bundesliga have to be satisfied with Real and Bayern. Of the other two Italian teams, Atalanta passes if they beat Villarreal at home while Milan's passage is very complicated. Barcelona is at risk of great traditional players, more and more in crisis than with Xavi on the bench.

    - Group A: City first and Psg second, the only doubt concerns the passage to the Europa League, with Bruges and Leipzig paired.

Favorite Germans (host the Citizens) because they can settle for the same result as the Belgians.

    - Group B: Porto, Atletico and Milan are competing for second place. The Rossoneri pass if they beat Salah's Liverpool at San Siro and if Porto and Atletico draw in the other match. Very complicated.

    - Group C: Ajax-Sporting stands out, but everything is established.

Dutch and Portuguese qualified and Dortmund third.

    - Group D: Sheriff third with Real and Inter qualified. To win the group, Inter must win at the Bernabeu. It will be a spectacular match between two teams in great shape.

    - Group E: desperate situation for Barcelona who must win in Munich with Bayern with full points to qualify. The very unlikely alternative is for Benfica not to beat Dinamo Kiev at home.

    - Group F: Manchester United qualified, everything is played between Atalanta and Villarreal, one point ahead but with a precarious form. The Goddess must win, otherwise she is third, a position that would vanish if the Young Boys loses and wins instead.

    - Group G: four teams in single file, all still in the running. Wolfsburg-Lille and Salzburg-Seville are played. The two who win certainly qualify. The last one, Wolfsburg, can even finish first if they win and the other match ends in a draw.

    - Group H: Chelsea and Juve qualified and equal points.

Juve go first if they win and Chelsea don't, or if they draw and Chelsea lose.

Zenit is definitely third.

In the Europa League Lazio hosts Galatasaray who beat them in the first leg.

Whoever wins is first in the group and moves on to the second round, if Sarri's team ends in a draw, they will have to play in the play-offs.

Napoli's task is even more complicated in emergency and in regression of results in group 4 in which Leicester, Legia and Spartak can still qualify.

To be safe, the Neapolitans have to beat the English.

In group B the Real Sociedad must overcome the PSV to steal the second place behind Monaco.

In group F Braga must beat the Red Star in order not to be overtaken by Midtjylland.

In the Conference League the Roma in crisis of Mourinho to avoid the play-offs must win at CSKA Sofia and hope that Bodoe does not beat the modest Zorya.

In group G, won by Rennes, Conte's Tottenham risks elimination: it will not be enough to beat the French but he will have to hope that Vitesse does not overtake Mura with a large score.

For group E, Union Berlin must beat Slavia to qualify, in group H a decisive challenge for first place between Basel and Qarabag on equal points.

The draws for the round of 16 of the Champions League and the Europa League and Conference League play-offs will take place on 13 December.
