The players of FC Zenith entered the lawn of the Saint Petersburg stadium with dogs in their arms on Friday evening before the kick-off of the Russian Premier League match between them and FC Rostov. The eleven players of the club arrived on the ground each carrying a dog available for adoption, as part of the project "Dogs are better at home", "Dogs are better at home", in cooperation with the Russian Federation of cynology. As the club said in a tweet, these animals from four local shelters are "looking for a new home." An information point was open in the stadium to allow interested supporters to obtain details on these dogs and the steps to follow with a view to adoption.

The success of the operation was particularly felt on social networks, where the video footage showing the players carrying the puppies in their arms has been viewed more than 3.4 million times on Twitter.
According to the Russian association "Animals wellness", there were more than 600,000 stray dogs in Russia in 2020.
