(ANSA) - MADRID, 07 DEC - The lava ejected from the CumbreVieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands, destroyed about 60 buildings saved up to that moment in 36 hours.
This was announced by the managers of the emergency plan developed for the eruption, which began last September 19.
The destruction of new areas hitherto spared is due to a tongue of lava that has broken away from a previous flow, invading the surface that had been damaged before.
In total, the area directly affected by the eruption is 1,182 hectares, according to data from the regional authorities.
