In Cologne, a 19-year-old collapsed in police custody and died shortly afterwards.
According to a joint statement with the Bonn police, the Cologne public prosecutor's office began investigations to clarify the circumstances of the death.
In addition, a forensic examination of the body had been ordered.
So far, there have been no indications of external influence.
The 19-year-old from Bonn was arrested on Saturday evening after disputes over property damage and threats with a knife in Cologne.
At that time he was under the influence of medication, drugs and alcohol.
19-year-olds no longer responsive
According to the police, at the last cell check on Sunday he still showed "clear vital functions," they say.
When he was due to be released shortly afterwards, he was no longer responsive.
After the collapse in his cell, the man was reanimated by an emergency doctor and taken to a hospital.
There he was reportedly treated in the intensive care unit.
He died on Monday afternoon.
