The prefecture announced on Tuesday that the island would again be subject to a curfew from 8 p.m. to deal with the fifth wave

While "the epidemiological indicators" are more and more worrying in the overseas territories, the prefect of Martinique, Stanislas Cazelle, announced on Tuesday in a press release that a curfew will again be introduced throughout the island from 8 pm until the morning from Wednesday December 7, and this "to face the fifth wave" of Covid-19.

This device is in place for two weeks and will be "the subject of a review clause", we can read in the press release.

“Any travel must be justified for an overriding reason of a family, health or professional nature.

(…) In the event of an inspection, the exceptional travel certificate must be presented accompanied by a supporting document, ”warns the prefect, who specifies that the exemption for establishments open to the public until 10 p.m. is not this time. renewed.

Reinforced protocol in schools

As announced at the exit of the Health Defense Council on Monday by Prime Minister Jean Castex and Minister of Health Olivier Véran, "schools will apply the level 3 health protocol," said the press release.

Concretely, this protocol, also called “orange level”, requires the wearing of a mask “in closed spaces and outdoors” for children and staff alike.

Student mixing should also be limited, especially during catering.

Sports activities are maintained outdoors, “as well as indoors for low-intensity activities”, allowing masks to be worn and distancing.

The adaptation of the law on compulsory vaccination in question

In order to slow down this fifth wave, "teleworking is strongly recommended and to be favored as soon as possible as well as videoconferences and remote meetings", adds the prefect.

“The moments of conviviality (departures, arrivals, Christmas meals…) which are numerous at the end of the year in the professional and associative framework will have to be reinvented to be kept safe”, specifies the press release.

In addition, the prefecture of Martinique recalls that vaccination is now recommended from the age of 12 "to protect yourself and slow down the circulation of the virus".

While the West Indies face very strong tensions due to the high cost of living and the compulsory vaccination of caregivers, the Minister of Overseas France, Sébastien Lecornu, promised last week to open discussions on "adaptation of the terms of application of the law on compulsory vaccination ”, already postponed from November 15 to December 31.
