(ANSA) - DUBAI, 07 DEC - A turning point in the Arab Emirates.
The government has decided to change the weekend from Friday-Saturday to Saturday-Sunday and establish a working week of four and a half days.
The rules will come into force on January 1, according to reports from the official Wam press agency.
In addition to Saturday-Sunday, Emirati residents will have an additional half day of rest on Friday afternoon, the day of the great weekly prayer in Muslim countries.
The UAE are the first nation in the world to introduce a shorter work week than the traditional five days.
From an economic point of view, the new working week will better align the Emirates with global markets.
