REPORT - The new adaptation of the musical by Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents was filmed between New York and New Jersey, with part in studios. Le Figaro crossed the Atlantic to visit the real settings.

Robert Wise had indeed filmed the opening scene of his adaptation of the musical in the condemned buildings and the rubble of San Juan Hill, a neighborhood of the Upper West Side of Manhattan, predominantly African-American and Puerto Rican, razed by urban planner Robert Moses for a vast real estate project including Lincoln Center.
