New on the shelf: So what did we think of Domino's' new pizza?

Domino's Pizza enters the thick pizzas category for the first time and launches a rectangular pizza made of sourdough - what did we think of it?

And also, the ingenious and obvious move of lotus cookies, is there still room in the world for a hot dish and what happened to us when we tasted vegan tuna?

Domino's thick (Photo: Dan Peretz)

Domino's thick sour pizza

Domino's Pizza launches Sicilian pizza - a particularly thick and crispy pizza made of sourdough. For the first time, Domino's is entering the thick pizza category, with a thick, rectangular Sicilian pizza, inspired by the New York version of the popular Sicilian pizza in the Palermo area, Sicily. Rectangular pizza made of sourdough dough, after rising for several weeks, in favor of a crispy and airy texture. Domino's' new Sicilian is offered with a new tomato sauce, which the chain has developed especially for pizza and touches of garlic butter at the bottom to give it a crispiness and taste

what we thought:

We admit that we are a bit divided about Domino's' new move. Especially now that every pizza has become a "chef's pizza" we have a certain fondness for the classics of dominoes, in a world where there is a lot of uncertainty, there is something comforting, knowing what we will get each time again, and even if it's too simple or childish, it has the usual pizza of Domino's place, just the way it is, without changes and sophistication. And suddenly she too wants to be rectangular and thick, and the question arises why? Is it necessary?

As a matter of fact, the dough is good, it is indeed thick and airy, with crispiness at the bottom, just as we were promised. It does not feel chippy, but even a bit like pizza made at home (in a good section). She's not greasy, and does not leave her hands greasy at the end of eating, she did not even make us feel bad that we ate junk.

This is a likable pizza at the end of it all, does it meet a specific craving for Domino's Pizza?

No, does it address something that is missing in the market?

Definately not.

But if there are domino's fans in the audience who want to diversify a bit with a thick and rectangular pizza and maybe a little more quality - you got it.

Strauss Delicious (Photo: Shake Design)

Strauss Delicious

Strauss began marketing the Strauss Delicious brand products, including a variety of frozen meals prepared in minutes.

The products are divided into two main categories: chef meals for quick preparation in the microwave, and pastry meals for oven heating inspired by the takeaway culture.

What we thought:

Despite the not very original branding ("Delicious"? Used it once, twice or seventy, no?), This series is particularly surprising.

It may not be mom's food or a "real" takeaway from a restaurant, but it's very, very respectable, fast and delicious.

In 7 words: Probably the best frozen product line you have ever eaten.

Hot Rice Noodles (Photo: Barn Studio)

A hot dish of rice noodles

Barn - Nestlé launches for the first time a hot dish of rice noodles - an innovative product in three flavors: rice noodles in the style of stir-fried chicken and mushrooms; Rice noodles in yellow curry sauce, rice noodles in soy sauce in Chinese style - limited edition.

What we thought:

From the moment the water is added, the familiar smell of a hot dish rises, and a memory of "how delicious it was when kept at the base." After 4 minutes, in the first bite we realized that the world may have changed, the culinary has evolved, but a hot dish remains a hot dish. for better and for worse. On a daily basis there is no reason to eat it. Chicken is not, mushrooms are not (well, maybe yes, dried) and delicious ... it's a subjective matter. The rice noodles are not enough to absorb any flavor, and the powder itself is mostly very salty. Not really reminiscent of chicken soup.

Today, when every street corner has one pop-up or another, there is no real reason to eat it, if it is not in an extreme situation (camping, guarding the army, plane crash).

It's still the same artificial taste we used to get from it hot, only now there are so many options around.

VUNA (Photo: PR)

Vegan Tuna (VUNA)

The development team of Nestle Barn has developed tuna from the plant. The product, which will be marketed under the VUNA brand, is manufactured in Israel and in the first phase, will be marketed in the professional market (restaurants, cafes, etc.), and later will be marketed to the private consumer.

What we thought:

The first thing that attacks you is the smell. The stench evokes nostalgia of a fish dissected in oil. Only there is no fish there. Knowing that no intelligent creature has had to sacrifice its life for your lunch is the moral starting point of most vegans, and the new tuna sandwich from Barn / Nestle stands the test of time. The smell of tuna rising from the dish is the ultimate proof of the food engineers' investment in the new product, which comes under the ingenious name VUNA. They were not only satisfied with the taste, texture and appearance - but also the smell. This is one of the most invested vegan substitutes that have come here since the beloved Beyund Burger.

We did not get to taste the VUNA on its own, but in a fresh, soft-touch ciabatta prepared in advance by the food experts who market the new product.

The ciabatta came with a generous amount of "tuna", alongside fresh and crunchy vegetables.

This is a bit of cheating.

Like tasting new ketchup when it comes along with perfect chips that have just come out of double frying.

Still, it was hard not to be impressed.

The taste of the invested tuna sandwich was simply a taste of tuna.

And the smell, as mentioned, was the same smell.

I did not even know that I missed this sour aroma so much.

Today VUNA can only be found in the Landover chain as part of their vegan sandwich menu, but in the future it will be available in retail chains for private use.

For quite a few vegans and also "reducers" it can be a real game changer.

Lotus Sandwich Cookies (Photo: Hila Dafna)

Lotus Sandwich Cookies

Diplomat, the official marketer of the international brand Lotus, launches a new lotus cookie series: Lotus Sandwich Cookies - a pair of cookies with a unique lotus flavor, with two filling flavors: vanilla flavored cream and lotus cream.

What we thought:

Let's just say it - we flew over the new cookies.

For us this is exactly the much requested upgrade for the lotus cookies.

The vanilla cream slightly refines the so-so-dominant caramel flavor of the lotus, turning it from a slightly dry biscuit into a much more interesting cookie, yet still refined.

Yes we will note that this is a very sweet cookie, but we like the genre.

The lotus cream filling is also very successful, but for extreme lotus lovers.

Total beauty of a product.

m & m Brownie Fudge (Photo: PR)

M & M's Brownies Fudge

The leading chocolate lentil series in Israel and in the world, expands and is renewed with M & M's Brownie Fudge.

"Feels like brownies coming out of the oven. Soft and delicious filling without baking" - so according to the post.

What we thought:

First, let's go ahead and say that as avid fans of the brand who stare enviously at the huge selection of flavors overseas we are always happy and welcome new flavors joining the local celebration.

However, we have not been able to find a significant advantage to the taste of the new brownie fudge, true the candies themselves are larger, and there is more filling, but somehow it does not make them more fun or pampering, or even more chocolatey.

In the end, we'll stay true to the classics.

Due Diligence: The bag was eliminated, no doubt.

Splendid Chanks (Photo: PR)

Splendid Chunks

The Splendid chocolate bar series from Elite is expanding and from now on will also include chocolate bars with pampering toppings - Ecuadorian 62% dark chocolate with nuts and almonds, 36% Ivory Coast milk chocolate with nuts and almonds, and blond chocolate with nuts and almonds.

What we thought:

We'll start with the looks, the packaging is great branded, in fun colors and with a stimulating image, and definitely make you want to.

Even when you open the package, there is finally truth in the advertising, the chocolate looks inviting and stimulating, just like in the picture, and it is.

Great chocolate, quality, fun texture, and the toppings are generous and indeed very pampering.

Simply excellent chocolate, which does not fall short of any foreign-made chocolate.

Definitely a product we will return and buy.

Elite Chocolate Bars (Photo: PR)

Perfect byte

Another launch from Beit Elite is small chocolate bars in family packages - milk chocolate bars filled with hazelnut cream with hazelnut chips A bag of hazelnut milk chocolate mix filled with salted caramel cream and pretzel chips.

What we thought:

Well, that's not the quality of Splendid, but it's a cute and not bad snack at all, that closes a corner of sweetness that is so sometimes required.

The classic taste is sweet, reminded us a bit of a time-out, although the cream here is a bit more dominant and indulgent, the salty caramel filling with the pretzel, was less successful in our eyes, created a bit of over-sweetness, and maybe we just got tired of this combination already.

Overall a nice exit.

SOOM snacks (Photo: PR)

Flavored sesame snacks

Strauss is launching a series of sesame-based snacks that come in a double package - a salted caramel-flavored sesame snack, a black and white sesame snack and fennel, and a sesame snack with cocoa and cinnamon.

The thin snacks give a crispy bite feeling, and a gentle saltiness that comes from sesame seeds.

Som snacks contain 68% sesame seeds and only half a teaspoon of sugar per snack (without a sugar sticker).

The source of fat is the raw material - sesame, only.

The snacks cater to a variety of audiences as they are vegan and do not contain gluten.

What we thought:

This is a great snack, a light and perfect solution, which closes a corner with a refined sweetness and not excessive, without guilt.

We loved.

Mac Ice Cream (Photo: McDonalds Israel)

Mac Ice Cream

The ice cream evolution of the hamburger giant McDonald's gave birth to dedicated positions years ago, and is now expanding - naturally, if more for us - into really cool branches, completely separated from the smell of frying and the temptations of French fries.

The concept is simple - the chain's well-known base ice cream, which mixes with 9-10 potential flavors, and is given new life, in a family party configuration (NIS 49 per 600 grams), a huge explosion mac (NIS 20). There are instant suspects here like hazelnut chocolate, berries and savory pretzel cream (of course), but also more interesting outings like banana brula, coffee or coconut-almond-white chocolate, and there are also donuts for those who come to Mac ice cream and don’t want ice cream.

What we thought:

We tried nougat (a little too sweet for our taste but still delicious and still perishable) with waffle chips on top, and also a fun version of salty peanut cream.

Note for improvement: Although McDonald's rightly decided to leverage its popular ice cream with a reinforcement collection, it stopped in our opinion a few steps before the real finish line.

That is, a crunch is needed, preferably in the form of a showcase laden with toppings that will play a bit with the texture and make the large cardboard cup more interesting.

The next step in evolution without a doubt.

Vanilla (Photo: Or Shoshan)

The vegan flavors of vanilla

The "Vanilla" chain has launched vegan ice creams in flavors: bounty, lotus cream and almond cookies, chocolate banana and peanut butter and a selection of sorbet flavors.

What we thought:

Opinions about vegan ice cream flavors were very divided, and can perhaps be divided between the vegan and the non-vegan.

Since the ice cream is intended for vegans, we will concentrate on the opinion of the former.

The chocolate banana is most similar in both texture and flavor to Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey Ice Cream and it was the best of the ones we tasted.

Lotus lovers will love the lotus ice cream which is in a very concentrated flavor and texture of these caramel cookies, who does not like - do not come close.

Grapefruit ice cream was for fans of the genre - but some claimed it was too bitter while others said it was not bitter enough.

The coconut to our taste was the least delicious, perhaps because vegans are used to coconut flavors in a lot of ice creams, and it was also too sweet for our taste.

Rosetta Delicacy (Photo: PR)

Rosetta

Gad Dairies is launching a limited edition "Rosetta" delicacy.

A Mediterranean delicacy based on bleached almonds with toasted coconut chips with a real marzipan flavor and a ceramic texture.

What we thought:

From the amount of sugar indicated on the package, we expected the delicacy to be sweeter, but it was moderately sweet.

The almond taste is dominant, and it has a slight spiciness reminiscent of rum.

The connection with the roasted coconut was a bit strange, the coconut flavor did not connect to the almond-rum flavor, and the coconut chips mostly got stuck in the teeth.

We have no problem in principle eating unhealthy delicacies (sugar, lots of carbs and low protein) if they are pampering, rich and satisfying, and on the other hand we have no problem compromising on taste or texture, if there is health value, but language seems to have neither this nor that.

The rosette is delicious, but it is not pampering and rich enough to be in the pampering category, and on the other hand not "healthy" enough to be in the healthy category.

Coconut Chocolate Cocoa (Photo: Want Nature)

Coconut chocolate

"Transparent that it is natural" is launching "Chocolate on Coconut Cream", the drink is marketed by the "Want Nature" company, which specializes in natural food products.

The chocolate is suitable for children, vegetarians, vegans, kosher observers and anyone who avoids dairy products.

The chocolate is made from fine cocoa and fresh coconut (94%) and contains only 3.5% sugar.

Gluten-free, food coloring, cholesterol, milk or preservatives.

What we thought:

This is a great drink.

Very tasty, feels like the real thing, to avoid milk, due to sensitivity, veganism, or just those who have heavy chocolate on milk is a great product.

The dominant taste is that of the cocoa, the coconut does not take over the taste.

Pompadour (Photo: Assaf Levy)

Pompadour infusions

The Pompadour brand launches for the winter of 2022, a series of 3 fruit infusions without added sugar and without caffeine, in unique flavors: peach infusion, blueberry infusion and lemon infusion.

The new series combines real fruits that give the sweetness of the fruit to the drink naturally and without the addition of sugar.

What we thought:

Pompadour's new tea series is very, very successful, the fruit flavors are dominant and as promised they do provide a great natural sweetness.

Also very fond of children, and the fact that the caffeine-free product makes it a great tea even before bed.

Belvedere vodka (Photo: PR)

Vodka Belvedere

Long years of increasing practice in wineries and distilleries, trout and aging (not to mention astringency and minerals) have left the world of vodka a little out of the high alcoholic discourse, unjustifiably so. Invested brands are already picking up the consumer glove, and BELVEDERE Poland is stepping up to do with two ambassadors who are supposed to provide a deeper-than-usual answer to questions that come after the drink.

These are two new bottles (in Israel) of the Single Estate Rye series (Danquoski diamond variety, one soil class) - LAKE BARTĘŻEK a tribute located on the lake in the northeast of the country, and SMOGÓRY FOREST from the forest in the west.

The old vodka - a stable brand with a well-known quality meter in routine - is up and running with these two bottles.

This "lake" drags a little and implicitly in the green-fruity directions, while the one that comes from the forest holds a deeper and longer-lasting flavor, with a tiny "castor" to finish.

Either way, this is a frozen sip - on its own or as a base for mixing - and very light, smooth and elegant than usual in the genre, and for that matter it does not really matter if you are a forest or lake type.
