On Wednesday, the director of the Instagram app will be questioned by the US Senate.
Chaired by Democrat Richard Blumenthal and Republican Marsha Blackburn, the commission dedicated to consumer protection has been conducting a series of hearings for two months with the main social platforms: Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok, etc.
They all had to explain how they protect their users under the age of 18 with their algorithms.
"Parents are worried about the design of these applications, whose powerful algorithms push content that can create behavioral disorders in young people,"
such as anorexia or depression, says the commission.
The latter began its work shortly after the revelations of whistleblower Frances Haugen.
