The Greek island of Santorini has been one of the hottest names in the world of wine for connoisseurs for several years. The best wines of the island and its flagship variety - the assertico, populate the wine menus in reputable restaurants around the world. Argyros is one of the most privileged and successful wineries on the island and its wines are gaining a lot of resonance in the world. In the current tasting two Argiros base wines, from the "Atlantis" series, white and red, an intermediate wine based on Asertico and another, Asertico, high, from very ancient vineyards on the island.

The base wines provide great value for money. White, with 90% assertico and complementary varieties, slightly extroverted, less traditional and gives a lot of quality and character for less than eighty shekels. The red tends to a more subdued and Mediterranean line and is also one of the best wines in the price category. The mid-series Asertico wine treasures all the good that Asertico knows how to give but has not yet reached its peak of maturity and is worth giving it extra aging time. In contrast, the high assertico, from the 2018 vintage, is one of the highlights of the shows of the genre and is highly recommended.

These are true wines for any weather - hot as cold.

For this fall and our Mediterranean food they will surely be well suited.

for life!

2020 Argyros, Atlantis White

Without a few words about astringency it is impossible:

Asertico grapes (90%), Ethiri (5%) and Idani (5%) from Santorini.

Cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks.

Without wood.

Light golden color.

In the nose white fruit, citrus, aromaticity.

Medium body.

14% alcohol by volume.

Some?

79 shekels.

Best for:

fish, seafood, chicken, pasta.

What the reviewer said:

Good fruit and not too crowded, sharp acidity, high presence, surprising minerality especially in the surprising cost contexts.

Extroverted wine if full of qualities.

No less than excellent value for NIS 79.

Value for money:

4.5 / 5 (excellent).

In four words:

white shells really less than eighty.

Without a few words about astringency it is impossible:

red based on 90% Mandy Larry and 10% Mabrotragano from Santorini. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks and 6-month aging in 500-liter French oak barrels. Dark red color slightly opaque, prone to black. In the nose red, black fruit and spices. Medium-full body. 13% alcohol by volume.

Some?

79 shekels.

Best for:

"on the fire", minced steak, meat sandwiches. Steaks.

What the reviewer said: The

palate is full of concentrated black fruit and has a lot of presence (black plum). Despite the power, it is a wine committed to a Mediterranean concept based on moderation and restraint. The meaning of this stylistic concept is that this is a very successful food wine, which will not take over the meat but will accompany it well. Really great value for money and red which is all character. Distinct "new world" wine lovers will not get along with it. Fans of the Mediterranean genre, will fly. Great value for money.

value for money:

4.5 / 5 (excellent).

In five words:

lots of wine without a lot of money.

Without a few words about astringency it is impossible:

100% Assertico vines aged 80 to 100 years on volcanic soil in Santorini.

Cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks.

Light golden color.

In the nose citrus and minerality.

Medium body.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Some?

135 shekels.

Best for:

fish, seafood and white meats.

What the reviewer said:

Lemon asertico, very aromatic, with a sharp acidity and a clear mineral tone.

It has everything that Asertico needs at its best and more, only it is a bit of a burden right now.

A year in the right storage conditions will surely bring out the best in him.

To get from him all the good in him, it is advisable to wait.

Value for money:

2.5 / 5 (realistic).

In three words:

buy but hold back.

Estate Argyros, Cuvee Monsignori 2018

Without a few words about astringency it is impossible:

100% Assertico vines over 200 years old (!), Planted on volcanic soil, in a design "basket" unique to Santorini. Manual vintage and fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Golden color. Citrus and floral nose. Medium-full body. 14% alcohol by volume.

Some?

190 shekels.

Best for:

fish, fruits, oysters, lobsters, white meats.

What the reviewer said:

The ancient, two-hundred-year-old vines, combined with the volcanic soil of Santorini, are present in every nuance of this excellent wine. Citrus, floral, sourness, abundant mineral presence, saltiness and an endless abundance of character. A truly wonderful wine, which managed to gain volume during its aging in the bottle and is completely worthy of sipping right now. The statute of limitations, under proper storage conditions, is at least 5-7 years old, maybe even longer. Asertico at its peak.

value for money:

3.5 / 5 (good. Expensive but worth every penny. Quality parallel wines from the branded countries of Europe will cost much more).

In seven words:

a great dry white and an assertico in one of the highlights of his show.
