A train driver in Pakistan has apparently made an unauthorized stopover on the open road - to buy yogurt.

As a consequence, he has now been suspended, as a spokesman for the railway ministry told the AFP news agency.

"If you stop a train in the middle of the line, it becomes a safety problem," he said.

A video distributed in online networks showed how the train driver's assistant fetches the yogurt from a street stall and then gets back on the passenger train.

Numerous media, including the "Times of India", reported on the incident.

Accordingly, the train driver had simply stopped near the Kana Kacha train station.

An employee of the railway network admitted to the AFP that such incidents are not uncommon in Pakistan, as the monitoring system often fails.
