At the final salute from
Turandot
, Puccini's final masterpiece given since Saturday at the Opéra Bastille, the most spectacular ovation went to the conductor, Gustavo Dudamel, for his first new production as musical director.
At the same time, a characteristic drumbeat rose from the pit: it was with their feet that the musicians were celebrating their new maestro.
First observation: Philippe Jordan had left his functions under the cheers, Dudamel begins his under the bravos.
This bodes well for a great continuity, as the affective dimension and mutual admiration are important to build a relationship of musical trust.
