(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, 07 DEC - With 222 yes and 212 no, the US Chamber approved the measure that paves the way for a rapid increase in the debt with a simple majority vote in the Senate (51 out of 100, all dem), thus overcoming the widespread opposition of the republicans.
The vote came after a bipartisan agreement reached by the leaders of the two parties in the Senate, where 60 votes are now needed to change the process.
Treasury Secretary JanetYellen had warned that the debt limit (now at 28.900 billion) could be reached on December 15.
