Sun Zhuo was four years old when he last saw his birth parents.

The child grew up in southern China and was kidnapped in Shenzhen City in October 2007.

Since then, Sun Zhuo's parents have been looking for their son.

Father Sun Haiyang and mother Peng Siying sold real estate to fund the search;

They also offered a reward of around 27,000 euros for clues about the whereabouts of their son, according to the US broadcaster CNN, among others, citing the Chinese state media.

But for years the efforts were fruitless.

Until now.

Officials located Sun in eastern Shandong Province.

A DNA analysis has confirmed that it is the missing person, it is said in the media reports.

Sun Zhuo, now 18 years old, met his birth parents on Monday. The reunion after 14 years was filmed and viewed millions of times in China. "After 14 years and 57 days, he is a head taller than his mother," wrote Father Sun Haiyang on the Weibo social network about family reunification. “He brought us local specialties from the region where he now lives. He's the Sun Zhuo we've all been looking for over the years. "

Previously, the police had used facial recognition technology to help locate a suspect in the case - this was possible because a surveillance camera recorded parts of the abduction in 2007. As reported by the South China Morning Post, among others, a man with the surname Wu has now been arrested: He is accused of kidnapping a total of two children, including Sun. He is said to have sold the boy to a couple in Shandong. According to the newspaper, it already had two daughters at the time.

Sun has lived with his adoptive parents since then, and he has now announced that he will continue to live with them in the future: They had raised him for more than ten years, he told Chinese state media, according to CNN.

The adoptive parents themselves are reportedly released on bail and awaiting trial against them.

The case of the missing Sun Zhuo caused quite a stir.

In 2014 the film »Dearest«, which is about human trafficking in China and is based on the story of the family, was released.

The film won several awards and was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival, among others.
