Police in Niagara Falls, United States, responded at midday on Wednesday due to the presence of a black car almost submerged in the bed of the Niagara River at the edge of the falls of the same name.
An emergency operation was initiated by the state emergency services, until the water level was lowered thanks to the dam on the river, explained the New York State Park Police in a statement in order to be able to access the vehicle.
Drones and a helicopter made it possible to locate "a body on the driver's seat", according to the same source, triggering the rescue operation by an American coast guard.

Hanging from the rope of a helicopter, this coastguard tried to stabilize above the car despite terrible, windy and snowy weather conditions, barely 50 m from the famous Niagara Falls, before managing to extract the body of the vehicle.
"A woman over 60, from western New York State, was found" but "declared dead on the spot," police said in their statement.
The investigation must now determine the cause of death as well as how the car fell into the river, between a road bridge and a pedestrian bridge, in the town of Niagara Falls.
