(ANSA) - BEIJING, DEC 10 - The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will largely see temporary and charter flights from cities such as Tokyo, Paris, Singapore and Milan to bring athletes to the Games due to travel restrictions in China, in the midst of measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.
"The Omicron variant has been detected in more than 50 countries, according to WHO data, and the pandemic prevention and control situation is still serious and complicated," said Zhang Liang, an official of the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee, during a Press conference.
The Winter Games, scheduled to start on 4 February, will be based on charter and temporary flights to bring athletes, media and other Olympic participants, with commercial flights as a supplement.Zhang clarified.
Athletes and other participants will have to arrive exclusively at Beijing Capital International Airport before entering, after having passed the appropriate health checks, in a closed circuit structured on three bubbles and strictly isolated from other parts of China. Once in, you will be able to leave only for departure from Beijing with the appropriate health documentation and negative outcome of the alCovid-19 tests. Zhang added that Chinese and foreign airlines will participate in the organization of the volicharters and temporary, assuring that "during the period of the Games there will be on average at least 15 arrivals and 13 departures per day".
