First step, this Wednesday, for the vaccination against Covid-19 of children aged 5 to 11 years old.
About 400,000 of them, out of a total of 5.8 million, will be able to receive a first injection of Pfizer vaccine against Covid-19.
Either because they suffer from at least one serious risk pathology in the event of infection (obesity, diabetes, cancer, etc., see the complete list below), or because they live in the entourage of an immunocompromised person.
In a document sent this Tuesday to health professionals, the Ministry of Health indicates that this vaccination will take place, initially, in hospitals and specialized centers.
As with adolescents aged 12 to 15, the consent of at least one parent (not necessarily both) is required.
"Prepare" for immunization of all children
The vaccine doses were of course suitable for children.
The vial has an orange cap and each dose contains three times less messenger RNA than the adult vaccine.
Each child will need to receive two injections three weeks apart, unless they have had the Covid.
In this case, as in adults, a single dose is sufficient.
Many children having been infected without having had any symptoms, they did not test positive.
It is for this reason that the ministry "recommends carrying out a serological test before each vaccination", without specifying whether this can take place directly in the center.
If the result is positive, the child will not need a second dose.

The government is now awaiting a new opinion from the High Authority for Health as well as that of the National Consultative Ethics Committee, in the coming days, to formalize the launch of the vaccination of all children aged 5 to 11 who so wish.
This would begin on December 20 in a vaccination center, then a week later in a doctor's office.
"In the case of an extension of vaccination to all children from 5 to 11 years old, all professionals are asked to prepare for it so that it can be implemented as quickly as possible. », Indicates the Ministry of Health.
Doctors were able to order their first doses of Pfizer vaccine for children on Monday.
