The tools to install an IP camera
A broadband internet connection and a router (or the ADSL box)
Most of the time, an ADSL box offers you a Wi-Fi connection and acts as a router.
Computer
The PC is only used for installation purposes.
Thereafter, your IP camera will operate autonomously.
IP camera
Depending on the model, IP cameras offer very different options, the most essential being the presence - or absence - of the Wi-Fi standard.
Install the IP camera
Connect your IP camera to the router with an Ethernet cable, then plug it into the mains.
Then install the camera software on your computer: insert the supplied installation CD, and follow the instructions.
If the software provides you with your camera's IP address, write it down!
Configure the network and / or the router
Open an internet window.
Type the IP address of your camera in the bar, preceded by "http: //" (example: http://192.168.1.201).
You access the administration interface of your IP camera.
Follow the instructions provided by the user manual.
You may need the following information if it is not provided to you:
IP address: the IP address of your camera
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: IP address of the internet box (often 192.168.1.1)
DNS server: IP address of the internet box (often 192.168.1.1)
Connect an IP camera to a Wi-Fi network
Most of the time, the Wi-Fi connection of your IP camera is also set from this administration interface.
If you have chosen a Wi-Fi IP camera, look for a “wireless”, “Wi-Fi” or “Wireless” menu… and connect as with a computer.
Once your settings are complete, save before restarting the camera.
Finally unplug the Ethernet cable, then access the interface again to make sure the link is working.
Monitor your home remotely with the IP camera
In order to access your surveillance camera from the outside, you still have to make one adjustment.
Connect to the management interface of your router or internet box: type its IP address in the address bar of a browser.
Enter the “router”, “NAT” or “LAN server” section, depending on the model.
Then enter the IP address of your camera in the available field, next to "Protocol: TCP" and "Port: 80".
Once the settings are saved, you will be able to access the images of your IP camera camera from any connected device.
