Enjoy mulled wine even without the Christmas market: which supermarket mulled wine can convince in terms of taste?
Find out here.
Most of the
Christmas markets
and thus also
mulled wine stalls
cannot take place again this year due to the corona pandemic.
But that doesn't mean that you have to do without the traditional
mulled wine in the run-up to Christmas
!
You could make it yourself at home * ... But honestly, who feels like it every time when there is also
ready-mixed mulled wine
to buy
in bottles
?
It doesn't have to be bad - if you know which one to buy.
With this you can
bring
the
Christmas market feeling home
at least a little.

Mulled wine from the supermarket in the taste test: test winner from the discounter
In 2020, the consumer portalvergleich.org put
eight mulled wines from various supermarkets and discounters
through their paces.
These included retail brands as well as own brands from the discounters Lidl, Netto, Penny and Aldi Nord as well as the supermarkets Edeka, Kaufland and Rewe.
The
winner of the
taste test
was a private
label of
the discounter
Lidl
: The "
German Winzerglühwein
" is not only priced at 1.73 euros, it is in the mid-range, but also has very good grades in all categories. The Lidl wine was convincing with its balance: light punch note, nicely fruity, but not too sweet, is the verdict. Overall, he got a
good overall grade (1.9)
and thus prevailed against the seven other mulled wine products tested.
If you
prefer
white mulled wine
, second place in the taste test might be something for you:
Kaufland's
“
Gotano mulled wine made from white wine”
also scored
well
with an overall score of 2.1
.
According tovergleich.org, the taste is pleasantly mild with citric notes.
But it's not exactly cheap: the bottle costs 2.91 euros.
In last place
, however, landed the product “Winzer Glühwein Spätburgunder” from
Netto (own brand)
.
It only achieved a satisfactory grade (3.4).
In terms of taste, the mulled wine could not convince: It was perceived as bitter and alcohol-heavy and was noticeable negatively due to an unsuitable, slightly menthol-like note.
