The consumer organization Foodwatch has awarded Rewe the golden cream puff.

That is a negative price for the biggest climate and advertising lie.

Cologne - The retail giant Rewe should not be happy about this price.

The organization Foodwatch has awarded the company the golden cream puff.

It's a negative price for climate lies.

In an online vote since mid-November, consumers had voted on who would receive the award and, with 17,661 votes, came to the conclusion that, in their eyes, a chicken breast fillet is the biggest climate and advertising lie this year.

As can be seen in a press release from Foodwatch, it is about “the chicken breast fillet from Rewe's own brand Wilhelm Brandenburg, which is advertised as 'climate neutral'”.

Rewe advertise the product in such a way that its production would not have any harmful effects on the climate.

Rewe receives negative price: CO2 emissions not offset

According to research by the organization, this is not the case.

In reality, the production is not emission-free and the CO2 emissions are also not offset.

“The forest project in Peru, through which the greenhouse gas emissions were allegedly offset, does not protect the forest there.

To advertise meat as 'climate neutral' is also fundamentally misleading, ”says the Foodwatch press release.

Vote for the golden cream puff: These products were in the running

  • 1st place:

Wilhelm Brandenburg chicken breast fillet from Rewe (17,661 votes)

  • 2nd place:

Volvic natural mineral water from Danone

    (17,031 votes)

  • 3rd place

: Mövenpick Green Cap coffee capsules by JJ Darboven (9,930 votes)

  • 4th place:

Katjes Wunderland fruit gums (9,894 votes)

  • 5th place:

Clean Protein Bar by Naturally Pam by Pamela Reif (8,972 votes)

The election supervisor of the Golden Windbag, Manuel Wiemann, criticizes: “Rewe expects meat with false CO2 certificates in a climate-friendly way and thus deceives environmentally conscious consumers.

In order to protect the climate, Germany has to drastically reduce the number of animals.

Rewe sells meat as good for the climate, which is an outright lie.

This greenwashing must come to an end.

Green advertising lies on non-ecological products must be stopped! "

Golden cream puff for Rewe: retail group rejects criticism

On Tuesday (December 14th) Foodwatch wanted to present the award at the Rewe headquarters in Cologne. But that was not possible because the activists said they were standing in front of closed doors. A conversation did not take place. As the consumer organization further explains, Rewe had already rejected the criticism in a written statement. Accordingly, the provider Climate Partner, who sold the CO2 certificates to the trading giant, assured that Foodwatch's allegations were unfounded.

Rewe told the news agency AFP that the award of the negative prize was unjustified.

Foodwatch would therefore have false claims as a basis for the compensation project.

Independent third parties had checked the information provided by the consumer organization and "unequivocally refuted".

According to Rewe, the packaging has already been revised and the chicken breast fillet is still being sold in Bavaria.

The organization Foodwatch recently found that four German foods have too high a proportion of mineral oils.
