VIDEO. In the cabin with Eddy, best driver in France at 22: "We discover places where no one goes"

Barely entering working life, Eddy Mangot has already circled the earth six times aboard his 44 tonnes. Sacred best driver in France on Friday December 3 at the end of a competition between nearly 350 truck drivers, this native of the Troy region resumed deliveries the following week. Like his many colleagues lined up on the service area, Eddy sleeps in his cabin and wakes up at dawn around 5:00 am to swallow the miles. "No little coffee" for him, he leaves on an empty stomach on his tour. He will drive 13 hours, his eyes riveted on the mirrors because according to him, "the road always holds surprises".

“I have always thought of a truck, I have always played a truck, I have always driven a truck,” admits the 22-year-old Aubois.

Long before imagining becoming a road driver, Eddy trained as a child on driving simulators.

“I'm not from a heavy truck driver's family at all, but it was my thing and my family supported me,” explains the backing champion.

“It's a job that fascinates me, it's low cost travel.

So whatever the salary - around 1,750 euros net - as long as there is "freedom at stake".

For Eddy, the profession is “wrongly neglected”.

"Today, we are far from the clichés of the road with a marcel and a tattoo signed

on the arm", he underlines.

“Now that there is all the comfort in the cabin, with integrated fridge and heating, it's much more pleasant than in the past”.
